Ports Necessary for Accessing WebCT

This information is intended primarily for network managers or individuals in charge of modifying firewalls or proxy servers at their locations to provide access to WebCT.

WebCT server name: webct.ltc.arizona.edu

The ports currently used by WebCT (or Old Pueblo MOO) and their usage:

Port TCP or UDP   Usage:
80 TCP general http calls (always necessary)
443 TCP WebCT logons via StudentLink
4445 TCP/UDP WebCT chat feature
4567 TCP/UDP WebCT whiteboard feature
7000 TCP used by Old Pueblo MOO
7777 TCP used by Old Pueblo MOO
8009 TCP WebCT JAVA servlet engine (used by internal HTML editor)
8080 TCP logon handshaking (always necessary)
8443 TCP WebAuth, instructor, TA, some student and guest login(blue button)
8500 TCP instructor, TA, student, guest login (necessary for all Webct courses)

The ports above should be open for both inbound and outbound traffic. Not all ports need to be opened though; check with the individual as to whether they use:

Ports for features not needed by your clients can obviously remain blocked on your end.
